At any point of your life! Here are some ways to give an outright donation:
Gifts of Cash (deduction at 50% AGI limit)
Gifts of Securities (appreciated or depreciated values, deduction at 30% AGI limit)
Gifts of IRA Distributions (qualified charitable distribution)

Gifts of Real Estate

There are multiple ways to leave a future gift:
“Leave a Bequest” in a Will.
